The Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle is a 10-bit HD/SD video capture/playback device that supports USB 3.0, and allows you to capture 10-bit HDMI or analog video directly from a camera onto your computer for professional editing or mere playback. With a neat, compact design, the Intensity Shuttle is very portable and easy to set up. As the input and output connections are on different sides, you can simply plug the unit in line with your existing cable setup.

The USB3 Intensity Shuttle from Blackmagic supports HDTV 1080i/59.94, 1080i/50, 720p/59.94, 720p/50, and allows easy and instant switching between HD and SD video standards. Additionally, using the USB 3.0 interface eliminates the need to compress visual data and thus saves on CPU processing power; this allows your CPU to solely focus on HD real-time effects. The video capture/playback device draws power from the USB 3.0 connector itself, and eliminates the need for a dedicated power source.

Fully compatible with multiple software image-editing solutions such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Fusion, and Nuke, the Intensity Shuttle also supports all Windows USB 3.0 computers. Note: Not compatible with Dell computers.

System Requirements Requires Windows 7 and an x58-based motherboard with onboard USB 3.0, or a USB 3.0 PCI Express card and an x58 or P55 series motherboard. Does not support USB 2.0 capture and playback.

Not all x58 and USB 3 combinations are compatible. One small variable on an x58 can prevent compatibility. Blackmagic therefore recommends the following hardware as guaranteed to work --

Certified PC workstations:
Hewlett Packard Z400
Hewlett Packard Z800

Certified combinations:
Gigabyte X58A-UD5 motherboard with Intel Core i7 processor and GeForce GTX 285 graphics card (driver version 260.99)
Asus Crosshair IV formula motherboard with AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.21 GHz processor and ATI Radeon HD 5800 series graphics card (2D driver version

Certified notebook computers:
MSI GE620

  • Can I use the Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 with any Motherboard, Operating System or PC Card that has a USB 3.0 connection ?

Videocraft Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Compatibility Information Guide

Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 is very specific in its need for particular models of motherboard, USB 3.0 card and operating system. If you are unsure what motherboard, USB 3.0 card or Operating System your PC or Mac is currently running, then it most likely WILL NOT WORK. This will be due to a hardware incompatibility between the Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 device and the USB 3.o chipset in your PC, and is not a hardware fault as such, as it can be shown that these units will work with a limited range of motherboards and USB 3.0 cards. However, even if these requirements are met, there is no guarantee that the Blackmagic Design USB 3.0 product will successfully operate in your PC.  This is not a hardware fault as such, it is a product of the limited hardware compatibility that the Blackmagic Design USB 3.0 chipset.

Many of the chipsets that are listed in the Blackmagic Design compatibility documents are no longer available, and we have found that the replacement chipset versions have been shown to be INCOMPATIBLE. DO NOT assume that as your system is new, that it will work. If your motherboard and USB 3.0 card is not listed in the Blackmagic list of motherboards and USB 3.0 cards, it WILL NOT WORK.

For this reason, and our experience with our clients who have unsuccessfully tried to use Blackmagic Design USB 3.0 products in their systems, we DO NOT RECOMMEND this product due to the repeated compatibility issues we have encountered. While it is possible to make it work (and we are able to successfully make it work in our test facilities), the massive choice of motherboards, USB cards and OS choices mean that it is more than likely that your PC won’t work with Blackmagic USB 3.0 cards. If you choose to purchase a Blackmagic Design USB 3.0 product we DO NOT GUARANTEE compatibility with your hardware, and Videocraft WILL NOT be held responsible for this.

For further information on compatibility of the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 unit, please refer to the Blackmagic Design website www.blackmagicdesign.com/support

From our experience, our very strong recommendation is to go for either PCIe or Thunderbolt  versions of this product, and both units have shown good compatibility and performance with a variety of systems.

We have put together this information guide on Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 to help our clients make an informed decision about this product. While we have seen it work successfully with the correctly specified hardware, we have had numerous reports from our clients that the unit will not work with their PC.
