Avid releases Media Composer v8.8 – PhraseFind and Scriptsync are back!

Media Composer v8.8 is now available to Avid Master Accounts, Application Manager, and the Avid Download Center (login and password required). This update includes a number of exciting new features, including:

  • PhraseFind 2.0 and ScriptSync 2.0: They’re back! Customers can now purchase new or upgrade licenses for PhraseFind 2.0 and ScriptSync 2.0 to use with this version of Media Composer. The phonetic engine has been updated for both PhraseFind and ScriptSync:
  • Updates to Find Window:
    • The Settings tab was removed and replaced with a Settings button
    • The Find field is now within each tab so that different searches can be performed depending on the tab selected
    • The Find field will auto fill based on previous searches
  • Updates to Script Window:
    • You can view row numbers for each line of text in the script
    • A new edit mode allows you to easily edit script text
    • A find button has been added to allow you to quickly find and replace text in the script
    • Scene and page pulldown menus were added to allow for quick access to added scenes and pages
    • Undo and Redo now works for Script functions (separate from the rest of the Undo/Redo stack)
    • Slates now support 16×9 formatting
    • The color pallet has been expanded for richer organization and script markup
  • Timeline Clip Notes: You can add notes to clips in the Timeline and view all the notes in the Timeline Clip Notes Window
  • Frame Cache for Effects Editing: You can now enable Frame Caching to improve performance during effects editing and Color Correction
  • Bin Sharing on Non Avid Storage: Media Composer will now notify users when they are attached to non-Avid shared storage that is emulating Avid NEXIS or ISIS storage

How to Obtain the Media Composer 8.8 Update

Customers who have already installed the latest version of Media Composer will be notified of the availability of the upgrade via the Application Manager. The Apps tab will also provide a link to download and install the update when desired.

New customers who purchase Media Composer will receive this 8.8 update in their Avid Master Account.

Customers on current Upgrade & Support plans can download the Media Composer 8.8 update either from their Avid Master Account or the Avid Download Center (login and password required).

Customers not on a current Upgrade & Support contract must purchase either a new Media Composer Subscription or Perpetual license to receive this update.

ScriptSync and PhraseFind are Back!

Avid is pleased to announce the release of Media Composer | PhraseFind 2.0 and Media Composer | ScriptSync 2.0 Options. Customers can purchase these options through Avid pricebooks, on the Avid webstore and through Avid resellers. Support for PhraseFind 2.0 and ScriptSync 2.0 are included in the Media Composer v8.8 update; customers must purchase these options separately (either new licenses or upgrades from previous 1.0 licenses).

Not only are these powerful tools back, but they’re better than ever!

  • The phonetic engine has been updated for both PhraseFind 2,0 and ScriptSync 2.0:
    • Faster, more accurate searches
    • Support for shorter phoneme phrases
    • More accurate results when working with unclear audio and a wider range of dialects and accents
  • Updates to Find Window:
    • The Settings tab was removed and replaced with a Settings button
    • The Find field is now within each tab so that different searches can be performed depending on the tab selected
    • The Find field will auto fill based on previous searches
  • Updates to Script Window:
    • Row numbers can now be turned on for each line of text in the script
    • A new edit mode allows you to easily edit script text

Please Note:

  • Customers must be on Media Composer 8.8 (released on February 16) in order to use PhraseFind 2.0 and ScriptSync 2.0
  • Customers who previously purchased PhraseFind 1.0 or ScriptSync 1.0 must purchase an upgrade to 2.0
  • PhraseFind 2.0 and ScriptSync 2.0 licenses will not run previous version of PhraseFind or ScriptSync
  • In order to enable PhraseFind 2.0 or ScriptSync 2.0 functionality, customers must license the options through the Application Manager
  • The English language packs are installed automatically with Media Composer 8.8; for additional language support, customers must download and install the Avid Language Pack installer from their Master Avid Account
  • PhraseFind 2.0 and ScriptSync 2.0 options are available via digital Activation Code delivered via email only; there are no physical activation cards
