Details

The Canon XF605 UHD 4K HDR Pro Camera is perfect for news gathering and studio productions. It delivers excellent image quality in any shooting environment. With the Canon XF605, you can capture stunning 4K footage at 60p/50p with 10-bit colour and 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. It also supports high frame rates up to 120p in Full HD. Plus, it comes in a compact size.

Powered by a 1.0 TYPE CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV 7 processor, this camera performs at the highest levels demanded by today’s professionals. The XF605 offers a variety of custom picture options which can be adjusted to suit different needs and offer greater flexibility in post-production or in the field, including HDR (HLG/PQ), Canon Log3 and user-created Look Files. Employing the same 5-Axis image stabilisation system found in Canon’s XF and XA series, the XF605 produces smooth footage, even in dynamic shooting scenarios. There are four IS options available by combining different settings in Standard, Dynamic and Powered IS, allowing users to select the most suitable and effective IS operation for their shooting environment. With a high magnification 4K L-series lens, the XF605 achieves a 15x optical zoom in 4K and 30x advanced zoom in FHD, great for capturing distant subjects.

The Canon XF605 employs Canon’s fast and accurate Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus System which brings Eye Detection AF and Canon’s EOS iTR AF X intelligent head detection and tracking functionality to the XF series for the first time. This advanced focusing system maintains sharp focus on an individual even if they turn away from the camera. A new Direct Touch user interface allows users to quickly and intuitively select subjects to focus on, as well as control on-screen settings, menu navigation and playback control.
Versatile and simple, for streamlined workflows
Roughly 10 per cent smaller and 600g lighter than the XF705, the XF605 weighs approximately 2kgi –for a convenient, hand-held camera that takes the effort out of shooting on the go. Designed with single operators in mind, it marries portability with a handy new multi-function accessory shoe designed to expand the capabilities of the XF605 through future accessories, the first being the CA-
XLR2d-C high definition XLR microphone adapter from TEAC. The adapter makes it possible to assign XLR inputs to all four audio channels that the XF605 offers, providing greater flexibility for capturing audio. The camcorder also addresses the rise of live-streaming over the last year, with IP streaming capability that supports multiple protocols, remote control for multicamera operation alongside
Canon’s range of PTZ cameras and the addition of the UVC for simple webcam use via USB-C.
The XF605 is a flexible camera, that seamlessly fits into existing workflows. With dual SD card slots and multiple recording options, it can record different file formats, resolutions, colour sampling and proxies simultaneously to separate cards. It is also possible for the image to be simultaneously output to both 12G-SDI and HDMI connections, which can be fed into any combination of monitors, broadcast
and recording systems to support both live and pre-recorded workflows. Ideal for shooting on the go, the XF605 is compatible with Canon’s new Content Transfer Mobile (CTM) appii which allows users to edit news metadata pre and post capture and import the footage from the camera to the phone, enabling instant transfer to broadcast station servers, for example.

DIGIC DV 7 Engine

The DIGIC DV 7 engine powers the camcorder's processing of the 4K, 10-bit 4:2:2 video and selectable color matrix settings, including Canon EOS and other industry-standard matrix choices, as well as supporting Canon Log 3/HLG and PQ color spaces. The processor allows you to take advantage of the dual SD card slots for dual recording, relay recording, and multiple simultaneous recording options of your footage in MP4 or XFAVC.

15x Canon L Zoom

  • A 15x optical/30x digital zoom (25.5-382.5mm 35mm equivalent) lets you reach shots near and far, whether in the field or the studio, and the 9-blade iris provides a pleasing natural bokeh
  • Separate F/I/Z controls: Three rings provide professional, individual control over focus, iris, and zoom settings
  • Image stabilization: Three optical IS choices include standard, dynamic, and powered IS for smoother motion shots

Advanced Autofocus

The XF605 is the first of the ENG-friendly XF family to offer two autofocus features familiar to Canon EOS series users that help keep your image sharp during dynamic shots:

  • Eye AF zeroes in on your subject's eye for crisp eye focus
  • EOS iTR AF X (head detection) does a neat trick of remaining focused on your subject even after they turn their head to the side or away from the camera

Frame and Interval Recording

Create captivating time-lapse effects using the XF605's Frame Recording and Interval Recording modes. Frame Recording captures a set number of frames with each press of the trigger. Interval Recording enables you to choose the number of frames recorded and the interval length between them.

Cinema Color

Match the look of your other Canon cameras using the XF605's cinema color matrix selections. Use Canon Log3, HLG, and PQ HDR for beautifully detailed images.

USB Video Out

Thanks to a USB Type-C video output, you no longer need an HDMI to USB adapter and can take advantage of all the XF605 features while using it as a webcam, boosting the image and audio quality of your streaming output.

New Touchscreen

Gain intuitive touchscreen control, including start/stop with the XF605's Direct Touch Control menu borrowed from the Canon C70 cinema camera.

XFT iPhone App

Canon's new XFT iPhone CTM (content transfer mobile) app enables a truly mobile news workflow. Use the app to exchange proxy footage, audio, and metadata through your phone connection and a newsroom server and integrate content into assignment planning software.

4-Channel Audio

A new multifunction shoe on the XF605 enables you to access up to four inputs on the XLR audio unit, perfect for capturing ambient sound plus one to three speakers.

Lightweight, Compact Form

The compact XF605 is about 25% lighter and 10% smaller than the XF705, a difference you'll appreciate on long shoot days.

Wired Remote Control

Use the LANC-based RC-V100 to control your main camera functions and shading options. Use an NU (RS-422) controller like the RC-IP100 to control the XF605 and other cameras in your network.

Class leading triple ring camcorder, with outstanding features

by -

Took delivery of mine less than a week ago, from Videocraft in Artarmon. I am already in love with this camcorder. It is superbly specced and capable. The battery life is good, however I chose to get a PB-A60 battery as well, which provides pretty much a full day's use. To get the absolute highest video quality, you will need a V90 speed SDXC UHS-II memory card, HOWEVER you can shoot full 4k 420 MP4 with V30 cards, which are typically 1/4 the price of the V90. As the MP4 files are also smaller you can really save money. I chose to get one V90 card and one V30 card.
