The Sony FX5 Full-Frame Cinema Camera Body features a 5K full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ XR2 processor and integrated AI for enhanced shooting support. It offers versatile image scan modes including Open Gate, internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW recording, and three Base ISO settings to ensure excellent noise control and wide dynamic range across varied lighting conditions.

Image Quality and Sensor Performance

The FX5’s full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor delivers high-resolution, high-frame-rate recording with fast readout speeds. It supports Open Gate recording up to 5K at 120 fps and 4K up to 240 fps, enabling filmmakers to capture detailed, smooth footage with natural textures and wide latitude, even in challenging high-contrast scenes.

Advanced ISO and Dual Gain Shooting

This camera offers three Base ISO settings—ISO 800, ISO 4000, and ISO 12800—to adapt to different lighting environments. Dual Gain Shooting technology reduces noise while maximising dynamic range, particularly enhancing shadow detail and providing greater flexibility in post-production.

Audio Capabilities

While the FX5 body does not include the XLR handle, it supports high-quality audio recording with up to 96 kHz/32-bit float audio when paired with compatible accessories. This allows for clean, professional-grade sound capture with up to four channels, essential for synchronised audio in video production.

Connectivity and Monitoring

The FX5 includes a 3.5-type 16:9 aspect touch-panel monitor and supports Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz bands), wired LAN (2.5GBASE-T and others), and Bluetooth 5.3 for flexible remote control and file transfer. Its compact Cinema Line body also features advanced cooling for up to 170 minutes of continuous recording, supporting long-form shoots reliably.
