Sony ECMW5 Wireless Microphone System with Charging Case

The Sony ECMW5 Wireless Microphone System with Charging Case is a two-person wireless kit for interviews, video production, live streaming and content creation. It includes two microphone/transmitters, a receiver and charging case, with support for Sony cameras with a digital Multi Interface Shoe, computers and mobile devices. Its compact components suit both planned productions and fast-moving creator workflows.

Digital audio integration

With a compatible Sony camera’s digital Multi Interface Shoe, the receiver delivers up to 96 kHz/24-bit audio or 48 kHz/32-bit float audio. Supported cameras can record 32-bit float audio directly into the video file, helping preserve quiet voices and sudden peaks for adjustment in post-production. Automatic or manual input gain from -12 to +12 dB, plus switchable noise-cut and low-cut functions, provides further control.

Wireless transmission and monitoring

The system provides low-latency wireless transmission up to 500 m in line-of-sight conditions. Bluetooth hopping technology helps maintain a stable connection and reduce dropouts in busy radio environments. Compatible Sony wireless headphones can be paired for cable-free monitoring, and the receiver can capture audio from the headphone microphone for lightweight vlogging. With a compatible microphone, binaural recording can also capture ambient sound with spatial depth.

Onboard recording and expansion

Each transmitter has 64 GB of built-in storage for independent recording and backup. Recordings can be exported to a computer over USB-C, either from the transmitter or through the charging case. Compatible Sony cameras can also retain a separate WAV recording while recording 32-bit float audio in the video file. Add up to two ECM-W5T transmitters, available separately, for four-channel recording of up to four speakers on separate tracks.

Connections, mounting and workflow features

The transmitters and receiver each include a mono 3.5 mm external microphone input for compatible lavalier microphones, with a locking jack on each transmitter. Clip and magnetic attachments support discreet placement on clothing or surfaces, while the upright design can be held for reporting and live streaming. The receiver connects to compatible smartphones and computers through the included USB-C adapter. Timecode synchronisation supports multi-camera workflows, while the AMOLED touchscreen and control wheel provide access to settings. Each microphone and the standalone receiver operate for up to seven hours per charge, with the charging case extending total use to up to 11 hours.
