Sony ECMW5T Wireless Microphone Transmitter

The Sony ECMW5T Wireless Microphone Transmitter is designed to expand an ECM-W5 wireless system or operate as a standalone audio recorder. It suits interviews, reporting, live streaming and other video work, with support for compatible Sony cameras using a Multi Interface Shoe with a built-in digital audio interface. Its compact upright design suits both discreet and handheld operation.

High-resolution audio and wireless transmission

Used with an ECM-W5 receiver, the transmitter supports recording at up to 96 kHz/24-bit or 48 kHz/32-bit float. Compatible Sony cameras can record 32-bit float audio directly in the video file, allowing quiet voices and sudden peaks to be adjusted in post-production. Low-latency transmission operates up to 500 m in line-of-sight conditions, while Bluetooth hopping technology helps maintain a stable connection in busy radio environments. An ECM-W5 system can support up to four speakers on separate in-camera tracks with compatible equipment.

64GB internal recording

The built-in 64GB storage enables independent recording without a receiver or camera, and provides an onboard backup during wireless shoots. Recording can be started and stopped from the transmitter. Files can be transferred to a computer via USB-C, either directly from the transmitter or through a compatible charging case. It can also connect to compatible smartphones and computers for additional recording applications.

Lavalier input and mounting options

A locking mono 3.5 mm TRS input accepts compatible lavalier microphones, including the Sony ECM-L1, available separately. The locking connector helps prevent accidental cable disconnection, while an external lavalier can be positioned close to the speaker’s mouth. Clip and magnet attachment options support flexible placement on clothing or surfaces, and the upright body can also be held for handheld event reporting.

Battery life and status monitoring

The transmitter provides up to seven hours of continuous operation on a full charge. When used in an ECM-W5 setup with the receiver powered by a compatible camera, charging through the case extends total use to up to 11 hours. LED indicators show power, recording and link status, while compatible camera-linked power can switch the transmitter on remotely.
