The Sony SEL400F45GM FE 400mm f/4.5 GM OSS Prime Lens is a portable full-frame super-telephoto prime for sports, wildlife and handheld video. Dual XD linear motors enable fast AF/AE tracking up to 120 fps, while Optical SteadyShot supports stable shooting. G Master optics, Super ED elements and Nano AR Coating II provide sharp, high-contrast images, with dust- and moisture-resistant construction for demanding shoots.

G Master optical performance

Super ED and ED glass elements suppress chromatic aberration and maintain high edge-to-edge sharpness, including at the maximum f/4.5 aperture. Nano AR Coating II reduces flare and ghosting for strong contrast and colour in challenging light, while the rounded 11-blade diaphragm produces smooth, rounded bokeh.

Professional controls and handling

Four focus hold buttons, a focus range limiter and a customisable function ring provide direct access to key focusing and camera settings. The lens also supports full-time manual focus override and uses internal focusing to maintain its overall length during operation. The rotating tripod collar can be removed when a slimmer handheld setup is preferred.

Durable lens construction

Rubber gaskets at the lens seams and mount help protect against dust and moisture, while the fluorine-coated front element repels water, oil and other contaminants. A 95 mm filter thread accepts screw-in filters, and the hybrid metal and plastic construction balances durability with portability.

Teleconverter compatibility

With a compatible Sony 1.4x teleconverter, the lens provides a 560 mm f/6.3 combination. The 2.0x teleconverter extends this to 800 mm f/8, with autofocus and auto-exposure retained.
